Why Entrepreneurs Hesitate to Franchise
Franchising Philippines | Why Entrepreneurs Hesitate to Franchise by Butz Bartolome |
Fear of losing control
Entrepreneurs may hesitate to franchise because they fear that they will be breaking up something that they had to work very hard to build. Building a brand is difficult; it takes a lot of time and effort to roll out a concept. Essentially, when someone franchises, they are giving up control of that concept. It can be challenging for an entrepreneur to relinquish control over their brand, as it is integral to their business. They may even question whether they are able to walk away and allow others to enter and operate their brand.
Financial concerns
Cost is one of the major concerns for the franchisee. We must make marketing tools available because advertising is essential. Training after a franchisee comes on board is one of the things that a franchisor will pay for; however, anything that everyone else needs to do will have to be suitable for each person. There will be a franchise fee, usually several thousand dollars, to secure everything in place. Legal costs could run into several thousand dollars. In the case of the small business owner, these costs could run into six figures in order to properly attract the right franchisees that are necessary for a small operation to function.
Risks
Entrepreneurs have to weigh the risks versus the benefits. They have to evaluate the potential risks against the benefits that their brand may receive. If an individual franchisee’s actions tarnish the colony of brands, they must take that into account. They know that shareholders must be afraid of the collapse. They need to demonstrate instances where the franchisee has agreed to pay, but has failed to do so, or where the franchisee’s bankruptcy could negatively impact the brand. The minor issues that plague franchisees often lead them to consider either re-franchising the business or maintaining their independence.
Lack of knowledge and experience
In terms of richness, there is so much to learn about this thing. A person who wants to be truly successful needs to get out, touch, listen, look, and search. They have to look for people who have been successful, and they must sit and listen to them. Someone who is already successful is the only one who could have understood this and ever succeeded.
